Day 1 Regionals Recap

Day one reveals few surprises amongst the top seeds in Mixed with Liquid troubled only by Mayhem (9-6) on their march towards the finals. Likewise MONSTER defeated Tundra 8-4 at the end of the day. All teams struggled with the wind and have been unable to play consistently. BigFish creates waves by breaking seed and defeating both Zen (11-8) and Crisis (12-6). BigFish now has a shot at the sixth seed by winning two games of their three games on Sunday.

Weekend warmup

The heat is an indication of the approaching weekend and the storm that acompanies it. While Sunday looks like it will be dry and sunny Saturday is another story. Rain is expected to roll through the area during the day before it dispiates in the afternoon. Thunderstorms are also expected throughout the day and that will put a damper on live video but we’ll do the best we can. In addition to live results and live video summary results will be available throughout the weekend.

Prairies Update

While Regionals for most regions are this weekend the Praries had their Regionals at Flatlands last weekend. In case you didn’t spot it Mark Lloyd of General Strike posted this comment providing a recap of Open: Prarie Regional Update: Tommy Douglas Dream Machine from Saskatoon stayed home earning the 3rd seed. General Strike and Mangina played for the first spot out of the praries. Mangina was down a few players which really showed as strike went up 6-1 early on and cruised to victory.

Regionals Coverage

Are you heading into town for Regionals to watch or support your team? Will you be taking photos? Writing any blog entries? Wanting to write blog entries? If so then please let me know so that I may link to your photos or blog during or after Regionals. Photographers: There are no official photographers for the event so all are welcome to shoot games. Please check with teams as to how close you can get to the fields, I suspect that none will mind if you’re right on the line.

2009 Ontario Regionals Schedule

The schedule is now available on the tournament website. Mixed will consist of two pools of 6. Women’s is a single pool of round robin before playoffs. MONSTER, Tundra, and BFC appear to have the top three spots wrapped up in Division B. Division B is trickier with the third spot up for contention between DiscGraceful, The Company, Desklamp, and Druid. All teams have a shot at Nationals on Sunday…or so it appears!
