Prairie Regionals Update

During the process of checking up on Regionals and sending random emails I received a reply from Corey Draper (Executive Director of Manitoba Organization of Disc Sports). Prairie Regionals will “most likely” be held at the Flatland tournament in Winnipeg on July 4th and 5th. Corey also forwarded a list of teams that are expected to compete for bids to CUC and you can find that below. Open: Three bids (2 strength bids from finishing 7th and 8th in Calgary).

Ontario Regionals – What I know

Quite a few folks have been asking me what date Ontario Regionals will be on and also whether I know where it is. I’m mostly in the dark just like everybody else but here’s what I do know (from reliable sources): “Aiming for Regionals on the July 11th weekend”. Trying to have all of the divisions at one location. Rumored locations that I’ve heard about include: Hamilton, Barrie, and Kingston.

SBB 2009 – Quick update

Games yesterday went pretty much according to expectations. There are four pools of four with all the top teams taking their pools as expected. The only “upset” was Karma over Mayhem 1 (Mayhem 2 is their feeder team). Karma is composed of many Open, Women’s, and Masters players from Toronto, Waterloo, and Guelph. It looks like a Liquid vs Karma final is in the cards with wind playing a huge factor (gusts up to ~60km/h).

What to do?

I haven’t posted for a couple days but things have been busy. In between preparing more content, working on projects, traveling, league, practice, and oh…work, it has been a hectic few days. So what’s coming up this weekend? The last few days have provided plenty of rain to soften the ground in preparation for Soggy Bottom Bowl in Guelph. It’s a fun tournament that’s usually held on the first weekend of May (rather than the last) but the TD was busy earlier in the season and the city wouldn’t open a certain few fields.

Am I mean?

I’ve traveled a little bit for Ultimate in the last few years and have encountered many interesting cultural phenomenon. One of my favourite traditions in International play is that of the “Spirit Circle” after a game.

What are those Aussies up to?

Given my interest in International affairs I contacted AFDADirector of High Performance Piers Truter about their recent Championships as well as 2010. My primary purpose for contacting him was to determine whether or not it was time to get excited about the next International meetup. Our first chance to get an idea of who from Australia will make the trek to Europe will be on July 1st 2009. The July 1st deadline is a non-binding deadline by which teams with an interest in Prague must make their intent known.
